As part of the National Registration Scheme introduced in 2010, the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) negotiated the protected title of “Specialist Plastic Surgeon” for all fully accredited plastic surgeons. The title is recognised by AHPRA and the Medical Board of Australia, and can only be applied to plastic surgeons who are:
- Accredited by the Australian Medical Council in the speciality of Plastic Surgery and;
- Registered under the National Law in that specialty.
This is designed to avoid misleading the public into believing that a practitioner is a specialist when they are not. Dr Mark Lee is a fully qualified specialist plastic surgeon.
There has been a lot of media interest in breast implants of late, particularly the Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) breast implants.
In March 2010 French regulatory authorities advised that the manufacturer of PIP implants had used unapproved materials which may affect the safety of PIP implants. There are also reports that these implants may rupture more than other implants.
Dr Mark Lee has never used PIP implants and so the concern surrounding PIP implants does not apply to any of our breast augmentation or breast reconstruction patients. Having said that, if you have any concerns regarding your implants please contact us on 9382 3340 and make a time to come in and see us.
