Prepare for surgery
We’re here for you
To help you prepare for your upcoming surgery, we’ve put together some general pre-operative guidelines. Closer to the date of your surgery, we will provide a more detailed set of instructions specific to your procedure.
Under advice from your doctor, we may recommend you cease taking the following medications at least two weeks prior to your surgery date –
- Aspirin or Aspirin-like products
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), such as Voltaren, Naprosyn, Indocid, Iscover, Plavix, Co-plavix
- Naturopathic preparations that contain Fish oil/Omega 3 oil, Glucosamine, Ginko-Biloba, Garlic (dietary is okay), Ginseng, Chia seeds.
We strongly recommend that all smokers stop smoking at least six weeks before surgery. Smoking causes long-term narrowing of the small blood vessels in the skin and other tissues, which reduces circulation and can impair the healing process.
While many people undergo plastic surgery without complications, it is important to be aware of potential risks before making a decision.
- Feel welcome to send through any final questions about your preparation, procedure, and recovery.
- Fill any prescriptions from Dr Mark Lee in advance, so you are prepared pre- and post-operatively.
- Take care of your body! Prepare your body for effective recovery by ensuring you focus on hydrating, eating nourishing foods, and exercising where possible in the lead up to surgery.
- Arrange for someone to drive you to and from your surgery, and pack a hospital bag.
- Please take a shower and wash your hair. We advise patients to use Chlorhexidine body wash.
- Avoid wearing deodorant, perfume, or body lotion. Makeup and nail polish should also be avoided, as they can make it harder to monitor you during anaesthesia. We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothes and slip-on shoes to your surgery.
- Please follow the fasting instructions given to you by Dr Mark Lee or the anaesthetist. This will vary depending on the time of your surgery. Please also aim for 8 hours of sleep the night before surgery, and wear clothing that doesn’t need to be pulled over your head.
Setting yourself up for a smooth recovery is essential for ensuring the best outcome from your surgery.
During this period, the body works to heal surgical incisions, reduce inflammation, and adjust to the changes brought about by the surgery. The decisions made during recovery can either promote healing or increase the risk of complications.
It is also a time to monitor and detect any potential post-surgery issues early on. It is important to understand and respect the significance of this phase to achieve the best results.
Preparing the logistics, such as where you will recover and who will support you, will ensure you can focus on rest and set yourself up for a successful recovery.
