Known as an explant procedure, breast implant removal patients may choose or be recommended to have their breast implants removed for various reasons including Implant rupture, Capsular contraction, Implant malposition, concerns about Breast Implant Illness (BII) and BIA-ALCL.

In these cases, it’s essential to remove both the implant and surrounding capsule, especially if there are concerns about silicone leakage or biofilm formation. This more complex procedure takes longer than implant insertion and involves sending the removed tissue for histopathological and microbiological analysis. Some patients may also choose a breast lift during the explant procedure if they do not replace the implant. If removal is due to Breast Implant Illness (BII), it’s recommended to wait at least six months before considering further procedures like Autologous Fat Grafting.

Male breast reduction is a surgical procedure designed for the treatment of gynecomastia, a condition where patients develop enlarged breast tissue.
